Why do male bees mate with female bees even though they know they will die?
They are not afraid of death at all. It takes about 1,100 stings to kill a human. It takes 1,100 bees about 90,000 miles to collect an estimated 1 kilogram of honey. That's almost three times the orbit of the moon!
If we calculate the number of flowers, we can see that to collect 1 kg of honey, about 4 million flowers need to be touched by pollen. If everything goes well, about 55 kg of honey is collected in a good season. From this information, we can understand how hardworking the worker bees are.
On the other hand, the queen bee only eats and lays eggs!
The queen lays 1500 to 2500 eggs every day. The nature of male bees is quite strange. They do not do any work in their lives, and even the worker bees have to feed them. Their only goal in life is to mate with the queen bee!
Every day at noon during the mating season, the most capable male bees in the hive gather in a specific place called the male assembly!
At exactly the same time, the queen bee leaves the hive for a visit, which is called "the meeting flight."
The queen bee suddenly enters the male colony. She releases a special scent upon arrival, which excites hundreds of male bees. The queen then mates with the male of her choice while flying. The queen bee can mate with as many as 18-20 male bees in a row!
Strangely enough, during sexual intercourse, the male bee's endophora's or genitalia breaks and the male bee dies immediately. That's why this mating is called "The Dramatic Sexual Suicide."
A hive has only one queen, a female bee. The hive is built around the queen.
If a female bee is born from an egg, the worker bees hide the baby female bee so that it does not come to the queen's attention. If the queen notices the baby female bee, the baby female bee is certain to die. When the baby queen bee grows up, a war breaks out between the two queens. There are two ways to do this. Either they die in the war (one kills the other and takes control of the hive) or they separate and build two separate hives.
If a queen bee dies unexpectedly, all the worker bees can hear the news within 15 minutes and collectively take the initiative to create a new queen bee.
There are some other strange facts that you will definitely be surprised to know,,, It takes 2 million flowers to produce 500 grams of honey. A worker bee can produce half a teaspoon of honey in its entire life. Another interesting fact is that honey is the only food in the world that never spoils!!!
